Spotlight Spice: Seared Salmon Seasoning

Seared Salmon Seasoning

It’s Lent, y’all! And we’re showcasing our Seared Salmon Seasoning as this week’s Spotlight Spice. It’s perfect for… well… searing salmon!

The blend is made from brown sugar, orange zest, black pepper, sea salt, coriander, anise, cumin, and fennel – giving it a sweet and citrusy flavor with hints of anise. It’s well balanced – strong enough in flavor to hold its own with salmon without being overpowering.

To use, we recommend lightly oiling your salmon with an extra virgin olive oil. If you really like citrus, try our Blood Orange Fused or Eureka Lemon Fused olive oils. Next coat the salmon thoroughly with the spice blend. We typically use 2 tsp. per pound of salmon.

Grill the salmon over high heat - around 450-500°F. For a one inch thick filet, it should take about 8 minutes to cook at that temperature. We start with the fish skin-side up for the first 4-5 minutes, then flip to finish.  You can cook directly on the grate or with the grate covered with aluminum foil, just make sure to brush the surface the fish will be cooking on with oil to avoid it sticking. When it’s done the skin should separate easily from the filet and the fish should flake easily with a fork.
