We’ve just got some new cookbook titles in the store this week. We can’t wait to share them with you:

($19.95) Whether you are cutting out or cutting down on your alcohol intake, or you’re just not a fan, you may have found that “virgin” drinks are sad, bland mockeries of their alcoholic counterparts. If this is your experience, you will be delighted to find this book.  It’s a beverage cookbook that dazzles – these recipes keeps all the color and zest and delicious flavors of your favorite cocktails and cordials – but without the actual alcohol.

Mocktails features dozens of drink recipes that call for innovative and unexpected ingredients (pepper! herbs!). The book also includes instructions for making your own homemade syrups and infusions – concoctions that you will want to use in the kitchen as often as you use them for drinks at your “mocktail” bar.

Really Hungry includes plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, and covers the basics of grilling – a helpful tutorial for first-time tailgating chefs.

All of the dishes in this cookbook meet the college student’s (or newly-independent young adult’s) basic needs: they’re simple, easy, and most importantly, budget-friendly.

 

cookbook-natural-food-kitchen-2016Natural Food Kitchen. $24.95 Subtitled “Delicious, globally inspired recipes using on the best natural and seasonal produce,” Natural Food Kitchen is full of just that: colorful, full-flavored fresh ingredients combined in creative and healthy ways.

A particularly refreshing aspect of this book is that the author, Jordan Bourke, never singles out and vilifies categories of food – an increasingly rare thing in “healthy eating” cookbooks.

The author offers healthier, more sustainable ways to enjoy (vegetable-based) fats and (non-refined) sugars, as well as suggesting ways to cook with sustainably-harvested fish and local poultry and meats.

Are you crazy about American literature? The Jazz Age? Paris in the Roaring Twenties? That crazy clique, that “Lost Generation,” which included Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Prokofiev and Gershwin, Franz Kafka and F. Scott Fitzgerald?

You’re going to get a kick out of this cookbook, which takes a serious look at the food and drink enjoyed by Fitzgerald and his fellow expatriates.

Baz Luhrman’s movie remake of Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby,” Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris,” and Paula McClain’s novel “The Paris Wife” have all contributed to the resurgent interest in Fitzgerald’s life and work. Taste of France fills in the more details of that decadent era with over sixty recipes for “American-style” Paris meals like ham-and-egg breakfast,s and Steak Tartare dinners, alongside Caviar Sandwiches and Gin Rickey cocktails.

Because of its close proximity and similar climate to its neighbors across the Mediterranean Sea, North African cuisine shares many common elements with European cooking, but with some distinct cultural and culinary differences. Essays sprinkled throughout Flavors of Morocco give the reader great information about the country’s culture, geography and history, and give these “exotic” recipes more context.
