This recipe was submitted by Beth Seuferer, West Des Moines, for our Sweet And Salty Snack Mix in the 2013 State Fair and took home the blue ribbon!

INGREDIENTS:

1 Cup granola
1 Cup “Bugles”
1/2 Cup Corn Chex Cereal
1/2 Cup Rice Chex Cereal
1/2 Cup pretzel rings
1/2 Cup peanuts
1/2 Cup almonds, roasted
1 Tbsp butter
1/2 Cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp corn syrup
1 tsp Cinnamon, ground
1/4 tsp Nutmeg, ground
1/4 tsp Cloves, ground
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 tsp Orange Extract

STEPS:
Combine all the (non-spice) dry ingredients in a large bowl. Combine the butter, sugar, syrup, and spices in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Boil 1 minute, then remove saucepan from heat. Add vanilla and orange extracts and stir gently to just combine.

Pour melted spice/butter/sugar mixture over the cereal/snack mixture and toss to coat. Bake the snack mix on a foil-lined baking sheet pan at 250 degrees for 20 minutes. Stir snack mixture after 10 minutes. Allow mixture to cool completely before storing in an air-tight container.
