Our Anise Oil is a concentrated, food-grade essential oil pressed from the star-shaped fruit of the Illicium verum tree. Just a drop or two delivers a bold, licorice-like flavor that’s as at home in a tray of pizzelle cookies as it is in a pot of savory broth.

This flavorful oil shows up in classic European baked goods like springerle, biscotti, and anisette candy, and it’s a signature note in Chinese and Japanese cooking where it deepens stews, soups, and braises, giving them a sweet, aromatic edge. It even makes an appearance in charcuterie, adding that unmistakable flavor to cured meats like pepperoni and sausage.

Because it’s highly concentrated, start small … you can always add more. As a rough guide, use about ¼ teaspoon of anise oil for every 1 teaspoon of anise extract, or for every 2 teaspoons of ground anise seed. Adjust by recipe and taste, since a little goes a long way.

If you notice the oil crystallizing in cooler temps, that’s normal. Just warm the bottle gently until it liquefies, give it a shake, and you’re good to go.

Store Anise oil in a cool, dark spot, and it will keep for about 18 months.
