Cinnamon, the inner bark of a tropical evergreen tree, is one of the few spices that you can eat whole. With its very hot aromatic taste, cinnamon evokes thoughts of wintry holiday treats, Mexican chocolate and exotic food from India, North Africa and the Middle East.
Cinnamon and sugar is the quintessential "spice blend" of childhood. For many of us, the glass shaker of cinnamon and sugar was a constant presence at the breakfast table, and was our first experience at getting to season our food all by ourselves.
Our cinnamon and sugar mix is a great treat to have on hand to sweeten up drinks, or to put a perfect finishing touch on morning toast and butter, oatmeal and cereal, even popcorn. Blend cinnamon and sugar with butter and top warm fruits or vegetables with a little dollop. A pinch of cinnamon and sugar atop your homemade whipped cream or steamed milk is a not-too-decadent indulgence.
Go ahead, be a kid again and sprinkle some on - we're all young at heart!
