Shawarma is a tasty Middle Eastern dish made from thinly sliced meat cooked on large cones - similar to the method used to cook gyro meat. We're guessing you don't have large cones sitting around, so this recipe will help you make your own shawarma-inspired dish at home.
Thinly slice chicken into small pieces (similar in size to fajita meat).
In a large bowl, combine Shawarma Seasoning Blend, lemon juice, and olive oil. Whisk until well combined. The resulting marinade will have a paste-like consistency.
Add sliced chicken to the marinade and toss to thoroughly combine. Refrigerate for 4-24 hours.
Preheat oven to 425°F. Peel and slice a medium white onion. Arrange the marinaded meat on a sheet pan and top with the pieces of fresh onion. Alternatively, you can skewer the meat and onions and grill.
Cook the meat and onion in the oven for 25 minutes (or until chicken is cooked through).
Serve on warm pita bread with tahini or hummus and pickles or pickled veggies.
Recipe Note
Don't be afraid to mix things up with the condiments! Substitute a cucumber and tomato salad with olive oil and Tangy Herb & Dill seasoning for the pickles, use your favorite dip instead of tahini or hummus, or add lettuce!
