Spotlight Spice: Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar

Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar

It’s national strawberry month, making it the perfect time to talk about our Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar. If you love strawberries and haven’t tried this one, you’re seriously missing out!

The sweet and tart flavor of fresh strawberries combines beautifully with the pruney and jammy base of our dark balsamic vinegar to create this awesome flavored balsamic. There’s a good reason it’s one of our customer (and staff) favorites.

For an amazing spring vinaigrette, combine our Basil Infused Olive Oil with equal parts of the Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar. Mix well (we like to shake it!), then drizzle over a kale, spinach, or arugula salad. We enjoy adding some sliced strawberries, candied pecans, and grilled chicken breast to ours for a complete meal.  If basil isn’t your favorite, try pairing with an unflavored extra virgin olive oil and the Blood Orange and Persian Lime fused oils.

Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar is also great as a reduction for use with fruit medleys, ice cream, and chocolate desserts. Making a reduction is super simple - just warm the vinegar over medium heat until it reduces by about half (it should be roughly the consistency of honey). Cool, then use.

This vinegar is also one of our favorites for shrubs – also known as drinking vinegars. Make a simple strawberry balsamic shrub by combining ½ cup water, ½ cup sugar, 1 cup chopped strawberries (de-stemmed), and a tablespoon of Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar in a saucepan. Simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool, then use it in your favorite cocktail (we like it with a bit of vodka and soda).

Pick up a bottle for yourself in the shop or online store.
