Spotlight Spice: Rosemary Powder
Rosemary and powder probably aren’t things you’re used to hearing together, but your eyes aren’t deceiving you… that’s exactly what we’re talking about in this week’s Spotlight Spice. It’s our Rosemary Powder.
We’re certain you’re familiar with the flavor of rosemary. It’s a bit minty, somewhat sage-like, with a mild peppery bite and a woody, slightly bitter aftertaste. Its flavors work wonderfully with tomato sauces, soups and stews, bean dishes, and with lamb, pork, chicken and beef. Rosemary’s flavor doesn’t break down during cooking, so it’s a good herb to add right at the beginning of the cooking process.
We’re particularly fond of Rosemary Powder as a convenient way to add the flavor without the texture and sharpness of rosemary’s pine-like needles. It’s great to use in dishes that you’d like to have a smooth texture. It packs a flavorful herbaceous punch, so you’ll want to use it sparingly.
While it’s convenient, Rosemary Powder doesn’t stay fresh as long as the whole version of the herb. We recommend storing it in a cool, dry place to maximize its life.
