Spotlight Spice: Guajillo Chile Powder
This week we’re shining the spotlight on our Guajillo Chile Powder. Guajillo chiles (pronounced gwa-HEE-yo) originated in the Mexican state of Zacatecas, and are the second most popular chile used in Mexican cuisine, after the ancho chile.
The chiles are known for their brightness – a bit fruity and tangy with mild-to-medium heat. In the shop, you’ll often hear us describe it as flavorful without being hot.
It’s a great chile to have on hand as it’s perfect for use in salsas and sauces, soups and chilis, and as flavorful “secret” ingredient which adds a bit of depth and complexity to just about any dish – we even used it in the brownies we made yesterday to celebrate “National Have a Brownie Day.” Add it to marinades and rubs for meat too.
Pick up a jar and give it a try. We’re confident you’ll love it.
