Spotlight Spice: French Herb & Mustard Rub

French Herb & Mustard Rub

Mustard has been a staple in French cuisine for hundreds of years. In fact, Pope John XXII even had his own mustard maker in south France!  In French cuisine, mustard is treated as an ingredient — not just a condiment. Cooks often add a little mustard to other quintessential French herbs and spices like parsley, fennel, onion, and garlic, to create incredible flavors in their dishes.

We’ve harnessed those amazing flavors of France in our French Herb & Mustard Rub. The rub blends sharp yellow mustard powder with fennel, parsley, garlic, onion, and other herbs and spices, giving the blend fragrant and herbaceous qualities. A bit of added orange peel and dried cane syrup add a brightness to this spice blend that you’ll love.

We use our French Herb & Mustard Rub in a variety of dishes to give them that je ne sais quoi — a special something you can’t quite put your finger on. It’s a wonderful addition to savory potatoes and casseroles, making it your perfect secret ingredient for Thanksgiving dishes!

Try whipping a tablespoon or two into your mashed potatoes or green bean casserole (it’s good in just about anything that includes a “Cream of…” soup in the ingredient list). It’s also a great addition to soups, stews, and sauces. And don’t forget, it is a rub! Use it to season your roast beef, prime rib, and even grilled salmon.

Did mom put you in charge of the veggie tray? Make a wonderful dip by combining the French Herb & Mustard Rub with sour cream and a shake or two of Freeze-Dried Shallots and salt (to taste) for a flavorful dip.
