Take a Look; It’s In a Book: Tagines and Couscous

Tagines_and_Couscous_Ghillie_BasanCooler weather and shorter days puts us in mind of making more soups and stews, one-dish meals that cook slowly, filling the whole house with rich and spicy smells.

If you have that same affinity for this kind of cool-weather food, you’ll love this new cookbook we recently got in the shop, Tagines and Couscous.

A tagine is the name for the traditional Moroccan cooking pot with a funny, conical lid, and it’s also the name for the spicy stews that cook best in this special pot. (And if your kitchen cupboards just can’t hold one more specialty pan, don’t worry: a tagine tastes just as fabulous in your favorite Dutch oven.)

This cookbook by Ghillie Basan ($24.95) has over fifty tagine recipes, illustrated with mouth-watering photos. For a glimpse of what Tagines and Couscous has to offer, we’ve shared Spicy Chicken Tagine With Apricots, Rosemary and Ginger as the current Recipe of the Week.

One whole chapter is devoted just to couscous, too, to help you get creative with that simple side dish, and another gives a broad introduction to salads and other vegetable dishes.

Come by soon and check out Tagines and Couscous. We think you’ll be inspired to try something new and tasty. And, of course, we’ve got all the special herbs and spices you need to make these easy, exotic recipes!
