**Omi’s Sauerbraten? What’s a Sauerbraten? Who’s an Omi? Sauerbraten is a kind of German pot roast, usually beef, but also possibly other kinds of meat. The “sauer” or sour part comes from marinating the roast in vinegar or wine, which traditionally would tenderize a tougher (cheaper) cut of meat. Omi is the term of endearment for Oma, or Grandma in German or Dutch.  This contest is a tribute to the memory of Alex Rhoads, the founder of AllSpice, who loved Sauerbraten and loved his German heritage.
