The fest kicks off on Thursday evening, June 8, with a concert at the Temple Theatre by the Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus, and resumes Friday night in the East Village with a host of food, musical and other entertainment. An overview of the Pridefest events is below.
AllSpice will be sharing special Pride Spiced Cupcakes as our Saturday Sample this week, and will be open during our normal hours throughout the weekend.
The crowning event of the multi-day celebration is a parade through the East Village on Sunday afternoon. The procession goes from East Grand Ave near the Capitol, and through the EV neighborhood down East Locust Street. A map of the parade route (and information about where parade participants should gather) is included below.
Remember that the East Grand Ave bridge over the Des Moines River is under construction, so you’ll want to come into the East Village on Locust, Walnut, or Court Avenue.
Capital City Pride Des Moines says, “The annual Pride Festival celebration, held the second weekend in June every summer. Our mission is to promote acceptance, tolerance, and understanding of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community through education, programming, and visibility.”
The Capital City Pride website is under construction; additions to the festival schedule and updates are being posted at the Capital City Pride Facebook page.
