Many thanks again to all of our customers who shared their recipes in last month’s Summer Salad Recipe contest. All of the staff enjoyed getting your fresh perspectives on how you use the ingredients you buy at the shop. You guys whip up some incredible dishes!
Several folks have asked us if we would publish the recipes of the salad contest runners-up, so here they are:
- From East Village neighbor Aimee Langager, this recipe for Sweet Quinoa Salad, with sweet cherries, pecans, Blood Orange Olive Oil and Korintje Cinnamon.
- Katie Sever’s Fresh Strawberry and Goat Cheese Salad tosses fruit, cheese, and spinach in a Blood Orange Olive Oil and Strawberry (or other fruity) Balsamic Vinegar.
- Another twist on the strawberry-spinach salad is Sara Kobilka’s Downtown Farmers’ Market Spinach Salad. Sara tosses in maple glazed pecans, blueberries, and a dash of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar (no oil necessary!).
- Jay Johnson picks up preserved lemons at Gateway Market for the luscious Preserved Lemon, Vanilla, and Arugula Salad.
Thanks again to all who submitted their favorite summer salads, and to all who asked to see the runner-up recipes.
Feeling competitive? We’d love to see your best grilling recipes (by June 16!) for our June Grill, Baby, Grill! contest.
And don’t forget: entries for the AllSpice contests at the Iowa State Fair are due July 1!
